We put a lot of work into our luxury scented candles here at Melt, so it stands to reason that obviously, we want you to enjoy them as much as you possibly can. That’s why we’ve been having a think recently about the major ways that you can get the maximum amounts of happiness from our scented candles. This is our first blog of two on the subject, as it turns out we’ve got rather a lot to say!

Here are some major ways that you can get the most out of your candles:

  1. Choose your candle carefully to match its environment.
  2. Think about how they can creatively light your home.
  3. Keep the wick trimmed regularly for maximum candle lifespan.

We know what it’s like when you bring home a candle, or open one as a gift. You’re desperate to light it, sure, but then there’s the question – where do you put it? For some people, it depends on where they spend the most time; it can be the living room, the sitting room or a home office. This can definitely be a good way to do things, but it also might be an idea to take into account what sort of feel you want for the room in question. While you might be very excited about your Verbana and Clary Sage candle, it might be a scent better suited for the bedroom than the study.

As a general rule, citrus scents work best for the kitchen (they help it to feel fresh and zesty), spicy scents work better for cosier rooms, while floral scents are better for bathrooms. Also, it’s worth keeping in mind the size of the room. Fluffier, more lightly scented candles are better for smaller spaces – stronger scents can fill them quickly, which some people can find overpowering.

Of course, like lots of things it depends on the candle you choose, and whether that’s the effect you’re going for. If so, don’t let us be the ones to tell you otherwise – go crazy! (But if the scent from your candle suddenly seems much stronger than it has before, that might be the reason why.)

The Lighter Side Of Candles

There’s another aspect to candles too – the gentle, soft light that they cast can make great ambient lighting. Again depending on the mood you’re going for, you can even enhance this feel by placing them next to mirrors or lightly-coloured walls (where the light will be better able to reflect). This will probably take a bit of experimentation, so don’t be afraid to move them about a bit in the first few days after you get them, just until you find that optimum point.

Finally, there’s the matter of maximising the lifespan of your candle. Don’t worry – here at Melt, we’re way ahead of you! We’ve already published a quick guide to wick management, which you can find here.

That concludes our part one of our series on how to get the most out of your candles. Stay tuned for our second and final entry on the subject, due very soon! In the meantime, you can click here to browse our full range of scented candles – we’re sure to have several that suit your tastes!
