Nutmeg
The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of ground nutmeg and is used widely in the perfumery and pharmaceutical industries. The fruit, when dried, produces nutmeg (the seed) and mace (the covering). Traditionally, nutmeg was believed to be effective against the plague and hence it was popular during the Elizabethan era.

Why we love it in fragrance
With its earthy and pungent base notes it is used to provide an oriental spiciness that is subtler than cinnamon.
Aromatherapeutic use
Sedative, stimulant, relaxing, anti inflammatory, antiseptic, bactericide.
