It’s time for us to get educational again here on the Melt blog. Today we’re exploring not one but three gorgeous ingredients, all of which feature heavily in our range of sumptuous scented candles. The special scents getting the Melt treatment today are bergamot, cinnamon and clove – some of our favourites to enjoy at this seasonal time of the year. So let’s get to it…
Often described as sunshine in a bottle, bergamot is perfect for those winter blues. Aromatherapists even use bergamot oil to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder – so if you’re a sufferer yourself, it’s well worth seeing if our bergamot scented candles can help.
Bergamot’s fresh, sweet, fruity scent has an uplifting effect and can ease tension as well as encourage sleep. As it’s a citrus fruit oil, it also helps to refresh the body and mind, helping get rid of those day-to-day stresses and enabling you to flow with life more easily.
Isn’t cinnamon just the smell of Christmas? It reminds us of those spiced beverages and seasonal cookies we love to indulge in over the festive season. As well as smelling delicious, cinnamon is a great mood booster too and another fab ingredient for banishing those winter blues. The scent is also thought to be an excellent cure for depression – especially when added to your food or drink as it helps to get rid of all that bad bacteria. What a wonderful excuse to indulge in a cinnamon cupcake or three…
The scent itself is native to Indonesia, but it cultivated in India and Sri Lanka. It has a warm, rich and spicy scent and helps to create a cosy and warming environment to fight feelings of depression, weakness and exhaustion. The woody notes are perfect for comforting the mind.
The spicy, stimulating scent of clove oil complements the ingredients we’ve covered so far perfectly. In India it’s used as ingredient in love potions, but in the UK, where unfortunately such things don’t seem to exist, it’s used as a traditional Christmas spice. Its powerful, unique aroma blends well with so many essential oils, making it a must-have ingredient in many of our candles. Particular oils that complement clove include basil, rosemary, peppermint, cinnamon, nutmeg and orange.
Clove oil is an aphrodisiac in nature and therefore makes an excellent stress reliever. When burned, it has a stimulating effect on the mind and removes mental exhaustion and fatigue. It’s also a useful aid to help those suffering from anxiety, depression and insomnia.
