Essential oils pack a lot of punch when it comes to helping you achieve perfect, problem-free skin – which is why they’re used within many of the top skincare ranges. While essential oils shouldn’t typically be applied neat, mixing them with a carrier oil or popping a few drops in your bath should give you the consistency you need for that perfect skin remedy.

Cellulite busting oils

With the weather getting warmer, this is one skin condition we’ll all be wanting to treat before it’s time to remove all those layers! Aromatherapy helps reduce cellulite through both the essential oils used and the act of massage, which together are a powerful combination.

Combine juniper berry essential oil with your chosen carrier oil (5 drops for every 10ml of carrier oil) for a cellulite solution you can massage on to your skin every night. Other citrus oils, such as lemon and grapefruit, are also effective lymphatic system stimulants and can be used within your blend.

You can also beat that orange peel as you sit back and relax in the bath by popping in 2 drops of juniper berry, 2 drop of sweet fennel, 1 drop of cypress and 1 drop of grapefruit.

Carrier oils that are typically used when blending essential oils include the following:

  • Almond oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Jojoba oil

The oils listed above don’t just smell great, they also help to increase the length of time that essential oils stay on your skin and prolong the aromatherapy effects. They also prevent any irritation you may get if the oils were applied neat.

Attack that acne!

Even as we mature we can still suffer from that agonising acne. Stress and hormones are just two things to blame. Geranium essential oil reduces acne breakouts through regulating oil production, while tea tree oil is the king of spot treatments. Its antibacterial properties help ward off acne-causing bacterial.

It also helps to regulate oil production, reducing the risk of unwanted breakouts! While you’ll find plenty of products that feature these oils on the high street, you can also dab them on the affected area with cotton wool and leave to work its magic overnight.

Say no to sunspots

sun-spots

A condition that comes with age, sunspots occur when the body is no longer as good at recovering from the damage that UV radiation causes. Using a base of virgin coconut oil, combined with a few drops of each of the following oils, should promote healing and rejuvenation of the affected skin and eliminate darker pigmentation.

  • Myrrh essential oil
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Frankincense essential oil

Eliminate eczema

Painful and relentless, eczema is one condition that can be difficult to treat. Helichrysum, oregano and thyme are the best oils for eczema, while geranium, frankincense and lavender can also provide those all-essential calming properties. It’s recommended that you mix these with fractionated carrier oil and use as and when symptoms occur.
