Oud
Agarwood Oil/Oud Oil, is an extremely rare and precious natural oil and has a very long history of medicinal use, as a valuable component of incense, and as an aromatic oil and is obtained through the process of steam distillation. However, the oil is only available from trees that have been infected by a parasitic fungus (Phialophora parasitica) which causes the trees to attack the affected wood by producing an oleoresin that, after some years, becomes dark and highly aromatic. It is the incense industry that accounts for the main commercial use of agarwood.
Why we love it in fragrance
Oud has been described as having a warm, deep, woody, animalic aroma and for that reason is the base in many fragrances. Our Dark Wood scented candles are as dark and as deep as you can get… be warned!
