Melts recipe for romance

If you’re looking to heat things up this Valentine’s Day, look no further than our scented candles. Scented candles and reed diffusers that have aphrodisiac properties are great for instigating romance and making that date night feel extra special; you just need to make sure you choose the right one!

What is an aphrodisiac?

Although essential oils have many therapeutic properties, most people don’t know that certain essential oils are also great aphrodisiacs.

An aphrodisiac is a food, drink, or scent that has the potential to induce love and romance – so it’s a great mood setter for a proposal, Valentine’s Day, or just a romantic night in.

In his recent studies, Hirsch, and other scientists have come to the conclusion that when it comes to aphrodisiacal properties, natural scents are best. While perfumes and clever concoctions can go a long way in trying to recreate these scents, nothing quite beats natural essential oils.

The key ingredients

Of course, not all essential oils have aphrodisiac properties, so you can’t just go and buy any scent. There are a few select oils that have been proven to get hearts beating faster and increase arousal, including a few of our favourites…

Romantic Rose

Perhaps the most commonly associated scent of all time when it comes to Valentines’ Day and romance, Rose oil is both sensual and romantic. It has rich, deep base notes, floral middle tones, a sweet, slightly leafy top note, and is the queen of all flowers.

Vanilla Vixen

Vanilla has been used in body creams and perfumes for centuries – one of the reasons being its aphrodisiac properties. The scent is known to induce euphoria and relaxation, producing a feeling of happiness conducive to romance.

Liquorice Love-In

Liquorice is well known for positively impacting the female sex drive, but is also a huge winner for men too. When burned, it is said to act on the glands, especially the adrenals, to optimise hormone levels and create that all-important balance and synergy.

Sensual Sandalwood

Sandalwood is an ancient oil that is well known for its meditative and relaxing properties. It has a balsamic, woody aroma – so is a great choice for the guys – and ideal if you’re not a huge fan of floral fragrances. Burn with a sandalwood-infused scented candle, or use as a massage oil to heighten the romance of the night.

Joyous Jasmine

Jasmine is said to be the most sensual of all natural scents and has been used, due to its erotic properties, in Asian countries for centuries. It’s sweet, stimulating, and exotic, helping one to feel emotionally balanced and completely relaxed.

Find your loved-up scent

Many of these aphrodisiac essential oils can be found in our Melt scented candles. So, if you’re looking for the perfect combination of loved-up scents try one of the following:
