As exciting as the airport can be, the hustle and bustle of check-in and security can be stressful, especially if you’re travelling with a large group or family. Making sure everything is as it should be is the key to a stress-free airport experience, so that means making sure you don’t have anything in your hand luggage that will hold up the show.
When it comes to what is and isn’t allowed in hand luggage, the information can often be hard to navigate (not to mention overwhelming!). So, let’s break it down a little bit. According to the Civil Aviation Authority, you can take candles in your hand luggage (hooray!).
However, there are a few things to remember when doing so:
Solid wax candles are allowed in the hand luggage, but gel-style candles fall under the liquids category and can only be varied if they are less than 100ml. Always check with your airline for more specific guidelines, but generally speaking, this is the bottom line.
Always check your airline’s carry on weight limits so you can make sure you don’t get stung with any last minute fees for going over your baggage allowance. For this reason we’d opt for a medium/smaller candle that will infuse your time away with pleasant scents but won’t stir up a scene in airport security
