5 easy tricks to save yourself stress in the mornings

rise and shine

Not everyone’s a morning person. For those of us who aren’t, mornings can be rough. (Much less preferable to curling up in the evening with one of our scented candles!) And if we don’t get off to the right start in the mornings, it can end up affecting our entire day. This week on the blog here at Melt, we reveal some of the secrets to making that early morning start a bit easier, so you can go about your entire day happy and refreshed.

1. Do as many morning jobs as you can the night before

This is hardly a new or particularly unique piece of advice, but there’s a good reason it’s bandied about so often! Mornings can be packed enough with brushing your teeth, showering, getting dressed, getting your work bag or lunch packed, and trying to find your keys. (Yes you do – we do it too!) If you’ve got children, you’ve got even more morning jobs to do, especially as they’re not always known for being thoroughly prepared before 9am.

Trying to fit in all that and the school run before work can be a nightmare, so you can make life a whole lot easier by doing what you can last thing the night before. Something as simple as just preparing and packing everyone’s lunches, or making sure that clothes are all laid out ready to be picked up, takes one big task off your daily to-do list. Plus, doing it the night before means you’ve got a bit of time to enjoy the soothing scents from one of our luxury scented candles as you do so. We recommend Lavender, a wonderfully delicate little lady who’s perfect for winding down of an evening.

2. Create a morning playlist

Millions of us across the UK turn on the radio to provide our soundtrack for the morning. Sometimes though, the DJs can be a bit shouty, and perhaps the music a little too in-your-face. If you’re not quite in the exact mindset for what they’re playing, it can even end up contributing even more to morning stress! A great alternative is to formulate a soundtrack for yourself for the morning. Take yourself on a little ‘journey’, moving from chilled-out tunes for when you’ve just woken up to music that’s gradually more energetic for when you really hit your stride. Playing music that’s in-sync with your exact mood can really help you get yourself going!

3. Don’t hit snooze!

There are few things in life better than waking up early and then realise you’ve still got time to go back to sleep. Unfortunately though, that’s not something you can do with the snooze button. Science says so! We won’t go into a detailed explanation of all the science behind it, but we’ll break it down in a nutshell. When you hit snooze and go back to sleep, you often enter a much deeper stage of your sleep cycle. If you’re then disturbed by your alarm at this stage, you’ll usually end up feeling even more tired and groggy than if you’d just gotten up in the first place. Instead, set your alarm slightly later, and get up when it goes off. Trust us – you’ll feel a lot better!

4. Light a scented candle to set the mood for your morning

We’ve got lots of luxury candles here at Melt which are perfect for lighting in the morning, between getting out of bed and getting out the door. Our favourites are Joy and Shine, both of which are ideal to give yourself a bit of get-up-and-go! Their softened citrus notes fill the room with a sweet scent designed to make you feel brighter, happier and more energetic, great for starting your day with a bit of vim and vigour. If you’re lucky enough to be working from home, you can relax in that luxury scent for hours, allowing that energetic feeling to last even longer!

Of course, those are far from our only options here at Melt. You might have your own favourites amongst our range! Why not pop down to our little shop on the farm, and see what we’ve got in stock?
