It’s no secret that we love spring here at Melt HQ, and now’s the time of year where we like to highlight some fun family activities that you can do in the newly-bright spring sunshine. But let’s be honest, after everything that’s happened in the past year or so, we’re willing to bet that you might want some time alone to yourself for a change! Now, time alone in the bath or on the sofa with one of our luxury scented candles is one way of getting that all-important alone time, but here are our top three alternatives!

Take a country ramble

Sometimes it helps to keep things simple, and a good old walk in the great outdoors can be just what the doctor ordered. It puts you in touch with all the beauty and majesty of nature, which can be the ultimate mood booster – especially if you’re lucky enough to live right here in the Ribble Valley, with one of the UK’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty right here on your doorstep. There’s an undeniable sense of freedom in just wandering wherever you feel like wandering – and after the year we’ve had, all of us could do with a little more freedom right about now! Personally, we love nature-inspired scents here at Melt, which is why we’ve worked so hard to incorporate them into luxury scented candles like Eden and Forest.

Flex your green fingers

Not everyone’s got naturally green fingers (if you’ll pardon the pun), but now is a good time to get started! If you’re not especially keen on the idea of a full-scale country ramble, gardening is an excellent alternative way to keep in touch with the natural world. It’s peaceful and tranquil, and there’s a unique kind of satisfaction to be had in shaping your own little pocket of nature at your home. It can also be surprisingly hard work if you need it to be, which is always beneficial in terms of exercise. And of course, it’s got one particular draw over a country ramble, in that the moment you’ve had enough, you can be back inside and relaxing in your favourite armchair before you can even blink. If this is an option that appeals, by the way, now is probably a good time to think about the plants that you want to start seeding in time for the warmer weather!

Visit a heritage site

Whether you’re a history buff or not, heritage sites can make for wonderfully relaxed days out, and they’re great for finding out more about the country we live in. After all, every town, village and city in the UK has its own rich and storied history, some of them dating back well over 1000 years. It’s an amazing way to feel more in touch with home, and more in touch with your local community. (Who knows, you might even go on to win a couple of pub quizzes with your newfound knowledge!)

There’s certainly no shortage of places to get started. Here in the Ribble Valley, some of our most famous landmarks include Turton Tower, Helmshore Mills, and of course Clitheroe Castle – just to name a few!

These are just a few of our suggestions, of course – you might well have some of your own! Whether you’re planning on spending some alone time on a day out, or in the comfort of your own home, you can always count on our luxury scented candles to put you in a relaxed frame of mind. HushLavender and Angel are some of our most popular scents for sitting back and putting yourself at ease – you can explore our full range right here on our site, or pay us a visit to our little shop on the farm. We’re always happy to see you!
