‘Melt’ is a small, exclusive company who specialise in completely handmade fine fragrance candles. Established in 1999, the first two years saw us move from the kitchen!.. to the garage, and then to a basement unit. When the stairs eventually proved a little too much, we finally came to roost in an old, converted barn, at a working farm, on the edge of the beautiful forest of Bowland... bliss!
We were thrilled when customer demand for our products necessitated more space for production - and as we were anxious to remain ‘on the farm’, discussions began regarding the development of other redundant farm buildings. In 2004 we took occupancy of the old stable block with our production workshop, offices...& opening our ‘Melt’ retail outlet.
So, two years later, we were still on Backridge Farm...and with the need for even more space, we moved for the last time into the old Open Barn, with beautiful views across the Ribble Valley to Pendle Hill. We are no longer the only residents on the farm...the community seems to be growing slowly but surely, with a selection of independent business ranging from interior design, beauty therapy, a very special toy shop, stunning plant and garden design outlet and a fabulous licensed coffee bar and bistro. Diversifying has meant that we have also been able to keep the original residents...our animals; and joining the obvious cows and sheep we now have a small herd of llamas, geese and shetland ponies to keep us entertained.
